Raise Them (Apple Trees) Up Right!

Pruning A Holistic Apple Orchard

  • 75 US dollars
  • East Bunco Road

Service Description

Were you fortunate enough to purchase property with an established orchard? Or, perhaps the ornamental trees in your front yard with the pretty white and pink Spring blossoms turned out being apple trees? Maybe you live out on a dirt country road miles from civilization ( or even a well established turn of the century neighborhood), and you've admired a broken down, decades-old apple tree on the side of the road as you've passed by. Worse for wear, but it's still miraculously producing fruit despite it's wretched appearance. I am excited to finally be offering a workshop that I KNOW so many aspiring growers of food and seekers of self-sufficiency will want to take part in. Raising Them Up Right, as this workshop is aptly named, means just that. Raising your apple trees ( and other fruit trees) with intention, patience, planning, respect, and a full commitment to holistic practice. I am going to teach you how to establish a relationship with your apple trees. Growing apples truly is a commitment - that of the orchardist, and the tree(s). In this relationship, you will foster patience, respect, intention, diligence, and a solid foundation for a very fruitful orchard future. This workshop will take place here at Athol Orchards during peak pruning time: WINTER! We will spend some time inside and then take the class outdoors to the preservation orchard. The trees are in their deep slumber and this dormancy period allows us to strategically plan the future growth of each and every tree prior to their emergence in Spring. The energy being generated by the season's sun, fertile soil, and water will in turn provide the apple trees with intentional and well-thought out paths for healthy growth and a fruitful future. Dress Warm - Beanies, gloves, heavy jackets, thick pants, good socks, good boots. Bring your questions and be prepared to take notes! There will be refreshments included. Seats are non-refundable but can be transferred to another participant should your attendance not be possible.
